| 7 | 7 | | by the 2009 Friends of Scouting Campaign for their contributions in |

| 8 | 8 | | developing the UTMB preparedness plan in advance of Hurricane Ike; |

|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Facilities planning administrator and institutional |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | emergency preparedness officer Michael Megna, institutional |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | emergency preparedness officer Dr. Joan Richardson, and vice |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | president for facilities and campus services Michael Shriner each |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | brought a wealth of experience and dedication to this vital |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | initiative; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, True models of the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared," |

| 17 | 17 | | these notable Texans worked diligently to create a comprehensive |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | plan in the days leading up to Hurricane Ike, and their exceptional |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | efforts not only enabled the institution to restore many of its |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | vital services much more quickly after the hurricane than |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | anticipated, but also helped to avert any loss of life; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noteworthy |

| 23 | 23 | | actions, and Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as evidenced |

| 24 | 24 | | by the laudable work of Dr. Richardson, Mr. Megna, and Mr. Shriner; |

| 25 | 25 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commend Dr. Joan Richardson, Michael Megna, and |

| 29 | 29 | | efforts in developing the institution's preparedness plan for |
