 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Roscoe High School
 reached the pinnacle of success with a 52-48 overtime victory over
 Plains High School to win the 2009 University Interscholastic
 League 1A Division 1 state championship on March 14, 2009, at the
 Frank Erwin Center in Austin; and
 WHEREAS, Finishing the year with a stellar record of 28 wins
 and just 4 losses, the Plowboys captured the first basketball title
 in the school's history in what was their very first trip to the
 state tournament; the team advanced through the playoffs with
 victories over Santo, Archer City, Poolville, Goldthwaite, and
 Italy High Schools, before besting Tenaha in the tournament
 semifinals; and
 WHEREAS, In the championship game, Roscoe benefited from the
 17 points and 9 rebounds tallied by Caden Smith and the 14 points
 scored by Jacob Villanueva, while Mr. Villanueva's twin brother,
 Jared, came up with 9 crucial points in overtime to secure the
 victory; in addition, valuable contributions to the team's success
 were provided throughout the year by the other members of the
 Plowboy roster: Garrison Williams, Justin Gonzales, Zach
 Gutierrez, and Trae Howard; and
 WHEREAS, Head coach Johnny Martin, in his 30th year at
 Roscoe, as well as assistant coaches Chuck Cathey and Jonathan
 Haseloff, provided outstanding guidance to the Plowboys, inspiring
 them to give their all in each and every game; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the goal of every
 high school athlete; the hard work and dedication demonstrated by
 Roscoe's talented basketball players have enabled them to realize
 that dream, and they will forever treasure their memories of this
 remarkable achievement; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the boys' basketball team of Roscoe
 High School on winning the UIL 1A Division 1 state championship and
 extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
