 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Claudia Pena of Alamo has received a 2008 Milken
 Family Foundation National Educator Award; and
 WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes outstanding
 elementary and secondary schoolteachers across the nation;
 candidates for the award are nominated by blue-ribbon committees
 from each state and are chosen by the Milken Family Foundation;
 selection criteria include proven effectiveness as an educator,
 professional accomplishments beyond the classroom, potential for
 professional and policy leadership, and the ability to motivate and
 inspire students, colleagues, and members of the community; and
 WHEREAS, A faculty member at North Alamo Elementary School,
 Ms. Pena was one of only 80 teachers in the country and 4 teachers in
 the state to win this award; in addition to receiving a $25,000
 prize, she was invited to participate in the annual Milken National
 Education Conference held in April 2009 in Los Angeles; and
 WHEREAS, Teachers are entrusted with shaping our nation's
 future through their interaction with our children, and Claudia
 Pena's dedication to her students and commitment to excellence have
 earned her recognition as one of the best teachers in the Lone Star
 State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Claudia Pena on her receipt of a
 2008 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award and extend to
 her sincere best wishes for continued success with her important
 work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Pena as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
