| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Claudia Pena of Alamo has received a 2008 Milken |

| 6 | 6 | | Family Foundation National Educator Award; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This prestigious award recognizes outstanding |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | elementary and secondary schoolteachers across the nation; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | candidates for the award are nominated by blue-ribbon committees |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | from each state and are chosen by the Milken Family Foundation; |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | selection criteria include proven effectiveness as an educator, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | professional accomplishments beyond the classroom, potential for |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | professional and policy leadership, and the ability to motivate and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | inspire students, colleagues, and members of the community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A faculty member at North Alamo Elementary School, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Ms. Pena was one of only 80 teachers in the country and 4 teachers in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the state to win this award; in addition to receiving a $25,000 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | prize, she was invited to participate in the annual Milken National |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Education Conference held in April 2009 in Los Angeles; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Teachers are entrusted with shaping our nation's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | future through their interaction with our children, and Claudia |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Pena's dedication to her students and commitment to excellence have |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | earned her recognition as one of the best teachers in the Lone Star |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | State; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Claudia Pena on her receipt of a |
