44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, C. J. Brisbin of Sonora has dedicated his time and
66 talents to addressing the needs of older Texas citizens; and
77 WHEREAS, Mr. Brisbin was born in Altus, Oklahoma, and grew up
88 in El Paso; following four years' active duty with the United States
99 Air Force, he spent 38 years with the El Paso Natural Gas Company;
1010 since his retirement, he has worked extensively with organizations
1111 that seek to improve the lives of senior citizens; and
1212 WHEREAS, A member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature
1313 since 2004, Mr. Brisbin currently chairs the utilities and natural
1414 resources committee and is a member of the executive, elections and
1515 credentials, and legislative action committees; in the 2008 session
1616 of the TSHL, he authored or coauthored successful resolutions
1717 addressing transportation, electric utilities, and water policy;
1818 and
1919 WHEREAS, Other organizations with which Mr. Brisbin has
2020 worked include the Sutton County Committee on Aging, which he has
2121 served as treasurer, and the Sutton County Senior Center, which has
2222 been able to purchase Lifeline equipment with funds that he has
2323 raised; in addition, Mr. Brisbin has served on the Concho Valley
2424 Regional Advisory Committee on Aging since 2004, and he is a member
2525 of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; and
2626 WHEREAS, For the past decade, Jim Brisbin has also helped to
2727 further the work of Lions Clubs International as a member of the San
2828 Angelo Concho Pearl Lions Club, district chair of the world
2929 services for the blind committee, and lifetime member and member of
3030 the board of directors of the Western Texas Lions Eye Bank Alliance;
3131 Mr. Brisbin additionally holds membership in the American Legion
3232 and the Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club; and
3333 WHEREAS, Jim Brisbin counts among his notable achievements
3434 the freezing of property taxes for elderly and disabled persons
3535 with homesteads in five cities and four counties, an action he
3636 helped to bring about; and
3737 WHEREAS, Among the many well-deserved honors conferred on Mr.
3838 Brisbin has been the Tireless Advocate Award, given by the Concho
3939 Valley Area Agency on Aging; and
4040 WHEREAS, Through his wholehearted commitment to representing
4141 and safeguarding the interests of senior citizens, Jim Brisbin is
4242 contributing to the betterment of the state and to the creation of a
4343 brighter future for all Texans; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby pay tribute to C. J. Brisbin for his service as a
4646 member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and for his other
4747 worthy endeavors and extend to him sincere best wishes for
4848 continued success; and, be it further
4949 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5050 prepared for Mr. Brisbin as an expression of high regard by the
5151 Texas House of Representatives.
