44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Brigitte Rogers of Sonora has worked tirelessly in
66 behalf of senior citizens of the Lone Star State; and
77 WHEREAS, Born in Beuthen, Germany, and raised in Berlin, Ms.
88 Rogers subsequently moved to Dallas and in 1992 relocated to
99 Sonora; and
1010 WHEREAS, Long interested in issues affecting older citizens,
1111 Ms. Rogers has served in the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature since
1212 2002; the author of numerous resolutions, she has chaired the
1313 retirement and aging committee and presently serves on the
1414 rural-urban and communications committees; she is also a member of
1515 the National Silver Haired Congress and a lifetime member of the
1616 National Council of Silver Haired Legislators; and
1717 WHEREAS, In the course of her career as an advocate, Ms.
1818 Rogers has assisted in securing a freeze, in five cities and four
1919 counties, on property taxes levied on elderly and disabled persons
2020 with homesteads; and
2121 WHEREAS, For nearly 15 years, Ms. Rogers has served as a
2222 Health Information Counseling and Advocacy Program volunteer
2323 certified benefits counselor, working in conjunction with the
2424 Concho Valley Area Agency on Aging; she has also helped lead the
2525 Sutton County Committee on Aging and served as a volunteer manager
2626 for Sutton County Lifeline; moreover, she is a member of the Concho
2727 Valley Regional Advisory Committee on Aging and a member of the
2828 Retired Senior Volunteer Program; and
2929 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has been deeply involved as well
3030 in Lions Clubs International; a member of the Sonora Downtown Lions
3131 Club and an associate member of the San Angelo Concho Pearl Lions
3232 Club, she has served as district chair for a number of committees
3333 and as president of the Western Texas Lions Eye Bank Alliance Board
3434 of Directors; and
3535 WHEREAS, In recognition of her extensive good works, Ms.
3636 Rogers has been inducted into the Concho Valley Senior Hall of Fame,
3737 honored by the president of Lions Clubs International with the
3838 Distinguished Leadership Medal, and named the recipient of numerous
3939 other accolades; and
4040 WHEREAS, Brigitte Rogers exemplifies the highest standard of
4141 civic engagement, and her staunch advocacy for senior citizens and
4242 other worthy causes has touched the lives of countless fellow
4343 Texans; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby commend Brigitte Rogers for her service as a
4646 member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and for her other
4747 outstanding community contributions and that she be extended
4848 sincere best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors;
4949 and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for Ms. Rogers as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5252 House of Representatives.
