5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Brigitte Rogers of Sonora has worked tirelessly in |

6 | 6 | | behalf of senior citizens of the Lone Star State; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Born in Beuthen, Germany, and raised in Berlin, Ms. |
---|
8 | 8 | | Rogers subsequently moved to Dallas and in 1992 relocated to |
---|
9 | 9 | | Sonora; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Long interested in issues affecting older citizens, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Ms. Rogers has served in the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature since |
---|
12 | 12 | | 2002; the author of numerous resolutions, she has chaired the |
---|
13 | 13 | | retirement and aging committee and presently serves on the |
---|
14 | 14 | | rural-urban and communications committees; she is also a member of |
---|
15 | 15 | | the National Silver Haired Congress and a lifetime member of the |
---|
16 | 16 | | National Council of Silver Haired Legislators; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In the course of her career as an advocate, Ms. |
---|
18 | 18 | | Rogers has assisted in securing a freeze, in five cities and four |
---|
19 | 19 | | counties, on property taxes levied on elderly and disabled persons |
---|
20 | 20 | | with homesteads; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For nearly 15 years, Ms. Rogers has served as a |
---|
22 | 22 | | Health Information Counseling and Advocacy Program volunteer |
---|
23 | 23 | | certified benefits counselor, working in conjunction with the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Concho Valley Area Agency on Aging; she has also helped lead the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Sutton County Committee on Aging and served as a volunteer manager |
---|
26 | 26 | | for Sutton County Lifeline; moreover, she is a member of the Concho |
---|
27 | 27 | | Valley Regional Advisory Committee on Aging and a member of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Retired Senior Volunteer Program; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has been deeply involved as well |
---|
30 | 30 | | in Lions Clubs International; a member of the Sonora Downtown Lions |
---|
31 | 31 | | Club and an associate member of the San Angelo Concho Pearl Lions |
---|
32 | 32 | | Club, she has served as district chair for a number of committees |
---|
33 | 33 | | and as president of the Western Texas Lions Eye Bank Alliance Board |
---|
34 | 34 | | of Directors; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of her extensive good works, Ms. |
---|
36 | 36 | | Rogers has been inducted into the Concho Valley Senior Hall of Fame, |
---|
37 | 37 | | honored by the president of Lions Clubs International with the |
---|
38 | 38 | | Distinguished Leadership Medal, and named the recipient of numerous |
---|
39 | 39 | | other accolades; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Brigitte Rogers exemplifies the highest standard of |
---|
41 | 41 | | civic engagement, and her staunch advocacy for senior citizens and |
---|
42 | 42 | | other worthy causes has touched the lives of countless fellow |
---|
43 | 43 | | Texans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby commend Brigitte Rogers for her service as a |
---|
46 | 46 | | member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature and for her other |
---|
47 | 47 | | outstanding community contributions and that she be extended |
---|
48 | 48 | | sincere best wishes for continued success in all of her endeavors; |
