44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Andy Burnett has rendered valiant service in
66 Afghanistan as a member of the United States Army; and
77 WHEREAS, The son of Larry and Donna Burnett, Andy Burnett was
88 born on January 4, 1980, in Laurel, Mississippi, but he later
99 relocated with his family to the Lone Star State; he earned his high
1010 school diploma in 2004, and at the age of 18 he became the youngest
1111 firefighter ever to join the Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department,
1212 serving with the organization for nearly two years; and
1313 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Burnett
1414 enlisted in the United States Army in April 2006; over the course of
1515 the following year, he completed basic training and airborne
1616 school, and he also trained to be a medic; deployed to Afghanistan
1717 in May 2007, he was assigned to a parachute infantry unit, and on
1818 July 17, 2008, just days before the conclusion of his tour, this
1919 brave young man was seriously wounded by a sniper's bullet; and
2020 WHEREAS, Mr. Burnett has since undergone extensive medical
2121 treatment at U.S. Army hospitals in Germany, Washington, D.C., and
2222 Florida, and he completed a physical rehabilitation regimen in
2323 record time; he has demonstrated the utmost courage and
2424 determination throughout his recovery, and he has drawn further
2525 strength from the love and support of his parents as well as his
2626 siblings, Daniel, Deborah, and Sarah; Mr. Burnett is now preparing
2727 for the next phase of his life, in which he will be pursuing a
2828 college degree; and
2929 WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Andy
3030 Burnett and to all of the nation's military personnel, for they are
3131 called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens, and their
3232 sacrifices are truly beyond measure; through his unfaltering
3333 devotion to his country, Mr. Burnett embodies the highest ideals of
3434 the U.S. armed forces, and he has earned the lasting respect and
3535 appreciation of all who know him; now, therefore, be it
3636 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3737 Legislature hereby honor Andy Burnett for his distinguished
3838 military service and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
3939 future; and, be it further
4040 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4141 prepared for Mr. Burnett as an expression of high regard by the
4242 Texas House of Representatives.
