Polinard has received the Liberty Bell Award from the Hidalgo County Bar Association; and WHEREAS, A native of Corpus Christi, Dr. Polinard holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&I University and a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona; he taught at Lamar University and at Oklahoma State University before becoming a professor at The University of Texas--Pan American in 1972; and WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Polinard has remained active in such campus groups as the UTPA faculty senate, and he has served as chair of the political science department and of The University of Texas System Faculty Advisory Council; moreover, he has coauthored two books and 22 articles in scholarly journals; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has received numerous accolades for his work at UTPA, including the Distinguished Faculty Award from the university's alumni association, the UTPA Outstanding Faculty Award, and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Faculty Excellence Award for Outstanding Teaching, and in 2006, he was given the Honorary Leon Jaworski Award for Contributions to Law Focused Education from the State Bar of Texas; in addition, he has been affiliated with the American Political Science Association, the Southwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors, and the Pre-Law Advisors' National Council; and WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Polinard enjoys the love and support of his wife, Cindy Polinard, and the couple take great pride in their treasured family, which has grown to include 11 grandchildren; and WHEREAS, With the utmost dedication to his profession, Dr. Polinard has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his notable achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jerry L. Polinard on his receipt of the Liberty Bell Award from the Hidalgo County Bar Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Polinard as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
