| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jerry L. Polinard has received the Liberty Bell |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Award from the Hidalgo County Bar Association; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, A native of Corpus Christi, Dr. Polinard holds |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&I University and a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | doctoral degree from the University of Arizona; he taught at Lamar |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | University and at Oklahoma State University before becoming a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | professor at The University of Texas--Pan American in 1972; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Dr. Polinard has remained active |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | in such campus groups as the UTPA faculty senate, and he has served |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | as chair of the political science department and of The University |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of Texas System Faculty Advisory Council; moreover, he has |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | coauthored two books and 22 articles in scholarly journals; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has received numerous accolades |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | for his work at UTPA, including the Distinguished Faculty Award |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | from the university's alumni association, the UTPA Outstanding |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Faculty Award, and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Faculty Excellence Award for Outstanding Teaching, and in 2006, he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | was given the Honorary Leon Jaworski Award for Contributions to Law |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Focused Education from the State Bar of Texas; in addition, he has |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | been affiliated with the American Political Science Association, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the Southwest Association of Pre-Law Advisors, and the Pre-Law |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Advisors' National Council; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Dr. Polinard enjoys the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | love and support of his wife, Cindy Polinard, and the couple take |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | great pride in their treasured family, which has grown to include 11 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, With the utmost dedication to his profession, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Dr. Polinard has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of his |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and he may indeed reflect |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | with great pride on his notable achievements; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jerry L. Polinard on his |

| 37 | 37 | | receipt of the Liberty Bell Award from the Hidalgo County Bar |

| 38 | 38 | | Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
