5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Karen Ellis has served as a trustee of the |

6 | 6 | | Richardson Independent School District since 1999, demonstrating |

7 | 7 | | admirable dedication to her community and its children; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Currently serving as the board's secretary, Ms. |
---|
9 | 9 | | Ellis previously held the offices of vice president and treasurer; |
---|
10 | 10 | | she received Master Trustee certification in 2001, having completed |
---|
11 | 11 | | the Leadership TASB program of the Texas Association of School |
---|
12 | 12 | | Boards; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Ellis was elected in 2006 to a three-year term |
---|
14 | 14 | | representing Region 10A on the TASB board; she has served on the |
---|
15 | 15 | | TASB Legislative Advisory Council and as a delegate to the Delegate |
---|
16 | 16 | | Assembly, and she has also participated in panels and presentations |
---|
17 | 17 | | at major TASB events; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A member of the executive committee of the North |
---|
19 | 19 | | Texas Area Association of School Boards, Ms. Ellis further supports |
---|
20 | 20 | | public education through her work with the Federal Relations |
---|
21 | 21 | | Network and TASB Advocacy Network, and she has testified before |
---|
22 | 22 | | legislative committees on school matters; she has served as |
---|
23 | 23 | | president of her local Parent Teacher Association as well and was |
---|
24 | 24 | | membership vice president for the RISD Council of PTAs; in |
---|
25 | 25 | | recognition of her outstanding efforts, she received a Texas PTA |
---|
26 | 26 | | Life Membership and Extended Service Award; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan completed the Leadership |
---|
28 | 28 | | Richardson program of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce and has |
---|
29 | 29 | | served the organization as a curriculum advisor and mentor, and she |
---|
30 | 30 | | was recognized as its Alumnus of the Year in 2006; moreover, she |
---|
31 | 31 | | gives generously of her time and talents as an active member of the |
---|
32 | 32 | | Richardson East Rotary Club and the Heights Baptist Church; an |
---|
33 | 33 | | apparel representative with Leon & Associates of Dallas, she |
---|
34 | 34 | | attended the University of North Texas; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Providing young people with a quality education is |
---|
36 | 36 | | essential to creating a prosperous future for our state and nation, |
---|
37 | 37 | | and through her achievements as a trustee of the Richardson ISD, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Karen Ellis has earned the profound appreciation of her fellow |
---|
39 | 39 | | Texans; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby commend Karen Ellis for her exemplary service to |

42 | 42 | | the Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees and |

43 | 43 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her |
