No. 1792 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Karen Holburn has worked diligently in behalf of public education for more than a decade, and she is now beginning an important new role as a trustee of the Richardson Independent School District in Place 5; and WHEREAS, A substitute teacher in the district for eight years, Ms. Holburn began her involvement in education when her oldest child entered Spring Creek Elementary School; she is a former president of the PTA at Spring Creek and at Westwood Junior High, and has served as president of the RISD Council of PTAs; in her role as fourth vice president of the council for 2007-2008, she directed the used book fair, which raised $35,000 toward scholarships; moreover, she was a member of two delegations from the council that traveled to the State Capitol to meet with elected officials; and WHEREAS, Ms. Holburn has also served as an RISD Teacher Job Fair consultant, as chair of the RISD Parent Advisory Committee, and as a member of the board of the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation; she is a life member of both the state and national PTA, a graduate of the Leadership Richardson program of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the board of the Youth Services Council; and WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the needs of Richardson schools, and is well prepared to unite with school board members, parents, classroom teachers, and other education professionals to provide the best possible learning environment for area students; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Karen Holburn on her election as a trustee of the Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Holburn as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
