| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Karen Holburn has worked diligently in behalf of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | public education for more than a decade, and she is now beginning an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | important new role as a trustee of the Richardson Independent |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | School District in Place 5; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A substitute teacher in the district for eight |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years, Ms. Holburn began her involvement in education when her |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | oldest child entered Spring Creek Elementary School; she is a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | former president of the PTA at Spring Creek and at Westwood Junior |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | High, and has served as president of the RISD Council of PTAs; in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | her role as fourth vice president of the council for 2007-2008, she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | directed the used book fair, which raised $35,000 toward |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | scholarships; moreover, she was a member of two delegations from |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the council that traveled to the State Capitol to meet with elected |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | officials; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Holburn has also served as an RISD Teacher Job |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Fair consultant, as chair of the RISD Parent Advisory Committee, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and as a member of the board of the RISD Excellence in Education |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Foundation; she is a life member of both the state and national PTA, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | a graduate of the Leadership Richardson program of the Richardson |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the board of the Youth |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Services Council; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has demonstrated an unwavering |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | commitment to the needs of Richardson schools, and is well prepared |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to unite with school board members, parents, classroom teachers, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and other education professionals to provide the best possible |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | learning environment for area students; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Karen Holburn on her election as a |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | trustee of the Richardson Independent School District Board of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
