44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The year 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the
66 founding of Young Conservatives of Texas, and the Texas House of
77 Representatives is pleased to recognize this significant milestone
88 in the organization's history; and
99 WHEREAS, A group of 177 students met in Austin at the Stephen
1010 F. Austin Hotel on Texas Independence Day, March 2, 1980, to
1111 establish Young Conservatives of Texas; and
1212 WHEREAS, A nonpartisan and independent youth organization,
1313 Young Conservatives of Texas was founded to attract students who
1414 believe in a conservative philosophy of government and to afford
1515 those students the opportunity to participate effectively in the
1616 political process; and
1717 WHEREAS, YCT is dedicated to promoting its Statement of
1818 Principles, including the beliefs that the Constitution was
1919 instituted for the protection of God-given rights, that the
2020 American system of Federalism, describing limited government and
2121 state sovereignty, serves to protect those rights, that economic
2222 freedom and the free enterprise system are essential to liberty,
2323 and that the aim of American foreign policy should be the protection
2424 of the freedom of the American people; and
2525 WHEREAS, For three decades, YCT has served as a strong force
2626 on college campuses throughout the state, regularly hosting
2727 speakers and events representing a wide range of conservative
2828 thought; and
2929 WHEREAS, The organization is well known for inspiring young
3030 people in our state to become involved in politics, for maintaining
3131 an active presence as a lobby at the Texas Legislature, and for
3232 placing alumni in all levels of government and public policy,
3333 including the Texas Legislature and Congress; and
3434 WHEREAS, YCT has maintained the longest running and most
3535 respected set of legislative ratings in the state, having assessed
3636 members of the Texas Legislature on their adherence to conservative
3737 principles since 1975; and
3838 WHEREAS, The members of Young Conservatives of Texas have
3939 consistently worked hard to promote the conservative principles in
4040 which they believe, and they have contributed their time and energy
4141 to many political campaigns; on March 2nd, 2010, they are
4242 celebrating their group's numerous achievements during the past
4343 three decades; now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4545 Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Young
4646 Conservatives of Texas and extend sincere best wishes to its
4747 members for many more successful years ahead; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
5050 Texas House of Representatives.
