5	5	WHEREAS, The year 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the
6	6	founding of Young Conservatives of Texas, and the Texas House of
7	7	Representatives is pleased to recognize this significant milestone
8	8	in the organization's history; and
9	9	WHEREAS, A group of 177 students met in Austin at the Stephen
10	10	F. Austin Hotel on Texas Independence Day, March 2, 1980, to
11	11	establish Young Conservatives of Texas; and
12	12	WHEREAS, A nonpartisan and independent youth organization,
13	13	Young Conservatives of Texas was founded to attract students who
14	14	believe in a conservative philosophy of government and to afford
15	15	those students the opportunity to participate effectively in the
16	16	political process; and
17	17	WHEREAS, YCT is dedicated to promoting its Statement of
18	18	Principles, including the beliefs that the Constitution was
19	19	instituted for the protection of God-given rights, that the
20	20	American system of Federalism, describing limited government and
21	21	state sovereignty, serves to protect those rights, that economic
22	22	freedom and the free enterprise system are essential to liberty,
23	23	and that the aim of American foreign policy should be the protection
24	24	of the freedom of the American people; and
25	25	WHEREAS, For three decades, YCT has served as a strong force
26	26	on college campuses throughout the state, regularly hosting
27	27	speakers and events representing a wide range of conservative
28	28	thought; and
29	29	WHEREAS, The organization is well known for inspiring young
30	30	people in our state to become involved in politics, for maintaining
31	31	an active presence as a lobby at the Texas Legislature, and for
32	32	placing alumni in all levels of government and public policy,
33	33	including the Texas Legislature and Congress; and
34	34	WHEREAS, YCT has maintained the longest running and most
35	35	respected set of legislative ratings in the state, having assessed
36	36	members of the Texas Legislature on their adherence to conservative
37	37	principles since 1975; and
38	38	WHEREAS, The members of Young Conservatives of Texas have
39	39	consistently worked hard to promote the conservative principles in
40	40	which they believe, and they have contributed their time and energy
41	41	to many political campaigns; on March 2nd, 2010, they are
42	42	celebrating their group's numerous achievements during the past
43	43	three decades; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
45	45	Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Young
46	46	Conservatives of Texas and extend sincere best wishes to its
47	47	members for many more successful years ahead; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
50	50	Texas House of Representatives.
