5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Horace and Alto West of Houston celebrated their |

6 | 6 | | 70th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2009, and they may indeed |

7 | 7 | | reflect with joy on the rewarding relationship they have shared; |
---|
8 | 8 | | and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Natives of the Brownwood area, Horace West and the |
---|
10 | 10 | | former Alto Turpin exchanged the vows of matrimony at a ceremony |
---|
11 | 11 | | held in Pecos on that special day in 1939, and over the course of |
---|
12 | 12 | | their marriage, they have found in each other a loving life partner; |
---|
13 | 13 | | and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. West count among their blessings a fine |
---|
15 | 15 | | family that includes two daughters, Dr. Charlene Gibert and her |
---|
16 | 16 | | husband, Wayne, and Sujane Baker and her husband, Olen, as well as |
---|
17 | 17 | | four grandchildren, Charla Hollingsworth, Christine Gibert, Dr. |
---|
18 | 18 | | Chris Baker, and Phil Baker and his wife, Stephanie; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The couple lived in Fort Stockton, Fort Worth, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Dublin, and McCamey before settling in Rankin in 1954; Mr. West |
---|
21 | 21 | | enjoyed a career with Halliburton and also served on the hospital |
---|
22 | 22 | | board, while Mrs. West volunteered with the hospital auxiliary; |
---|
23 | 23 | | after Mr. West's retirement in 1970, he and his wife moved to San |
---|
24 | 24 | | Angelo, where Mr. West was employed with Angelo Truck and Tractor |
---|
25 | 25 | | and later Angelo State University; the Wests moved to Houston in |
---|
26 | 26 | | 2005 to be near their family; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Devout Baptists, they were congregants of First |
---|
28 | 28 | | Baptist Church of Rankin for 22 years and in San Angelo joined |
---|
29 | 29 | | Harris Avenue Baptist Church; Mr. West has been a deacon since 1941, |
---|
30 | 30 | | and Mrs. West taught junior girls Sunday school and a kindergarten |
---|
31 | 31 | | class for many years, and they were instrumental in facilitating |
---|
32 | 32 | | the integration of their church in Rankin in 1962; in addition to |
---|
33 | 33 | | contributing to their community of faith, Mr. West is a 50-plus year |
---|
34 | 34 | | Mason, and Mrs. West is a member of the Daughters of the American |
---|
35 | 35 | | Revolution; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, For seven decades, Horace and Alto West have brought |
---|
37 | 37 | | to their marriage laughter, kindness, and devotion, and it is a |
---|
38 | 38 | | pleasure to honor them for their enduring commitment; now, |
---|
39 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

41 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Horace and Alto West on their 70th |

42 | 42 | | wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
