8 | 8 | | in the Future Problem Solving Program International competition; |

10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, More than 250,000 students from around the world |

11 | 11 | | participate annually in the Future Problem Solving Program |
---|
12 | 12 | | International, working to develop their critical thinking skills |
---|
13 | 13 | | through creative problem-solving projects; the program is |
---|
14 | 14 | | sponsored in the state by the Texas Education Agency; and |

15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Under the guidance of their teacher, Cherrie |
---|
16 | 16 | | Edwards, the fifth-grade members of the Nichols Sawmill gifted and |
---|
17 | 17 | | talented class have arranged to bring a miniature "therapy horse" |

18 | 18 | | named Tess and her handler to their school and to another Magnolia |

19 | 19 | | Independent School District campus, Williams Elementary; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Tess is part of the SIRE (Self-Improvement through |

21 | 21 | | Riding Education) program, and her visits will benefit the special |
---|
22 | 22 | | needs students at each school throughout the 2010-2011 school year; |
---|
23 | 23 | | calling their project TESS (Therapeutic Education for Special |
---|
24 | 24 | | Students), the students in the Nichols Sawmill gifted and talented |
---|
25 | 25 | | class have raised more than $8,500 for this innovative program; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Their recognition at the state level entitles these |
---|
27 | 27 | | dedicated and creative students to travel to the Future Problem |
---|
28 | 28 | | Solving Program International competition at Michigan State |
---|
29 | 29 | | University in May, and they may indeed take great pride in their |
---|
30 | 30 | | state victory as they look forward to competing with other young |

31 | 31 | | people from across the nation; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the gifted and talented class of |
