| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of Luther Lee Ray, Sr., of |

| 6 | 6 | | Marshall were deeply saddened by his passing on December 29, 2008, |

| 7 | 7 | | at the age of 78; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on November 27, 1930, in Genoa, Arkansas, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | "Pete" Ray exchanged vows with the former Jane Armstrong on July 1, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 1952, at a ceremony held in Miller County, Arkansas; the couple |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | shared a fulfilling relationship and together welcomed five beloved |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren into |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | their family; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A United States Army veteran and a pipefitter by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | trade, Mr. Ray took an active role in the local pipefitters' unions |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in Marshall, which he served twice as president, in Texarkana, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | which he led as president for one term, and in Dallas; he was also |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | active in the Democratic Party; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Pete Ray leaves behind a legacy of service to his |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | family, his profession, and his community, and he will be greatly |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | missed by all those individuals who were fortunate enough to share |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in his love and friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Luther Lee Ray, Sr., |

| 25 | 25 | | and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his |

| 26 | 26 | | wife, Jane Armstrong Ray; to his children, Deborah "Debbie" Dale |

| 27 | 27 | | Ray, Trey Ray, and Linda Ray Simmons and her husband, Tony; to his |

| 28 | 28 | | grandchildren, Greg and Chris Carter and Sonny, Clint, and J'Lyn |
