| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Reverend N. D. Burkley, Sr., has made a |

| 6 | 6 | | meaningful difference in the lives of countless people as pastor of |

| 7 | 7 | | Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Galveston since 1994; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, Reverend Burkley's spiritual |

| 9 | 9 | | guidance and visionary leadership have earned him the lasting |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | respect and admiration of his congregation; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Ike in 2008, Reverend Burkley has turned his attention to the cause |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | of helping Galveston evacuees return home; he has worked with |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | numerous city, county, state, and congressional officials in an |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | effort to restore north Galveston, and he has dedicated countless |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | hours to ensuring the permanent placement of all the city's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | residents; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, N. D. Burkley has guided Mt. Olive Missionary |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Baptist Church with compassion, conviction, and generosity, and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | congregants as well as members of the greater community have indeed |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | benefited from his inspired leadership; now, therefore, be it |

| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby honor the Reverend N. D. Burkley, Sr., on his |

| 24 | 24 | | 15th pastoral anniversary with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church |

| 25 | 25 | | and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his |
