44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The Eta Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., is
66 hosting its annual Founders Day celebration on June 13, 2009; and
77 WHEREAS, Created as a venue for African American business and
88 professional women, Eta Phi Beta seeks to promote high scholastic
99 standards, personal growth, career awareness, and community
1010 involvement; guided by the motto "Not For Ourselves But For
1111 Others," the group operates a nonprofit foundation, and it awards
1212 scholarships to high school students with business aspirations; in
1313 addition, Eta Phi Beta sponsors professional seminars and works to
1414 create fellowship among businesswomen, and it supports local and
1515 national charities, as well as programs that improve the quality of
1616 life of the developmentally disabled; and
1717 WHEREAS, One of more than 90 chapters throughout the United
1818 States and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Eta Chapter dates back to
1919 1960, when Dorothy Logan saw the growing need to form a network of
2020 women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; by December of that year, the
2121 chapter was officially established, and along with Ms. Logan, the
2222 charter members included: Selena Bennett, Vera Berry, Ella Buard,
2323 Aretta Davis, Marie D. Micheaux, Constance Feaster, Maxine Friday,
2424 Johnnye Hughes, Mae Fretwell Mason, Patricia Osborne, Francis
2525 Washington, and Bethesda Sutto; and
2626 WHEREAS, For nearly a half-century, the Eta Chapter has
2727 remained committed to its ideals of sisterhood, leadership, and
2828 community service, and its members may indeed reflect with pride on
2929 the remarkable legacy they share; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3131 Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Founders Day observance of
3232 the Eta Chapter of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and extend to all
3333 those associated with this notable organization sincere best wishes
3434 for a memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3636 prepared for the Eta Chapter as an expression of high regard by the
3737 Texas House of Representatives.
