5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., are |

6 | 6 | | gathering on June 13, 2009, for their annual Founders Day |
---|
7 | 7 | | celebration, and the occasion provides a fitting opportunity to |
---|
8 | 8 | | honor this outstanding organization; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Eta Phi Beta dates back to 1942, when 11 students at |
---|
10 | 10 | | Lewis Business College in Detroit, Michigan, sought to create a |
---|
11 | 11 | | venue for African American business and professional women; the |
---|
12 | 12 | | vision of these charter members was to promote high scholastic |
---|
13 | 13 | | standards, personal growth, and career awareness and to provide |
---|
14 | 14 | | opportunities for community involvement; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, Eta Phi Beta holds true to its original goals |
---|
16 | 16 | | and its motto "Not For Ourselves But For Others," and it actively |
---|
17 | 17 | | contributes to the communities it serves through more than 90 |
---|
18 | 18 | | chapters in the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands; in |
---|
19 | 19 | | addition to operating a nonprofit foundation, the group sponsors |
---|
20 | 20 | | professional seminars and works to create fellowship among |
---|
21 | 21 | | businesswomen, and it awards scholarships to high school students |
---|
22 | 22 | | with business aspirations; Eta Phi Beta also supports local and |
---|
23 | 23 | | national charities, including the United Negro College Fund, and |
---|
24 | 24 | | its members donate their time to programs that improve the quality |
---|
25 | 25 | | of life of the developmentally disabled; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of its rich history, Eta Phi Beta |
---|
27 | 27 | | Sorority, Inc., has remained committed to its ideals of sisterhood, |
---|
28 | 28 | | leadership, and community service, and its members may indeed |
---|
29 | 29 | | reflect with pride on the remarkable legacy they share; now, |
---|
30 | 30 | | therefore, be it |

31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby honor Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., as it |

33 | 33 | | commemorates its 2009 Founders Day observance and extend to all |

34 | 34 | | those associated with this notable organization sincere best wishes |
