5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of the AusTin Cans robotics team of Anderson |

6 | 6 | | High School in Austin exhibited their robots at the K12 Robotics |

7 | 7 | | Expo at the State Capitol on May 5, 2009; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The K12 Robotics Expo at the State Capitol is part of |
---|
9 | 9 | | the Capitol Boosting Engineering Science and Technology program; |
---|
10 | 10 | | Capitol BEST is an annual robotics competition in Travis and |
---|
11 | 11 | | surrounding counties; teams of high school students are given six |
---|
12 | 12 | | weeks to create a remote-controlled machine from a box of raw |
---|
13 | 13 | | materials, and winners advance to the Texas BEST contest at Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | A&M University; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The AusTin Cans are a team of talented and energetic |
---|
16 | 16 | | Anderson High School students who have been working together to |
---|
17 | 17 | | design and create robots for competition since 2006; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Anderson robotics team has participated in the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Capitol BEST Competition since 2006, and in 2007 they won several |
---|
20 | 20 | | awards, including second place overall, the High Score Award, the |
---|
21 | 21 | | third place BEST Award, and the Sportsmanship Award; that same |
---|
22 | 22 | | year, they also won the Rookie All-Star Award at the 2007 Lone Star |
---|
23 | 23 | | Regional FIRST Competition; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, three Anderson robotics teams advanced to |
---|
25 | 25 | | the semifinals of the Vex Robotics Competition, two of the teams |
---|
26 | 26 | | advanced to the finals, and one of the teams advanced to the |
---|
27 | 27 | | national competition; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The group's visit to the State Capitol provided an |
---|
29 | 29 | | excellent opportunity to showcase the innovative work of these |
---|
30 | 30 | | outstanding students and for all to admire the ingenuity of their |
---|
31 | 31 | | creations; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor the Anderson High School AusTin Cans |
---|
34 | 34 | | robotics team and extend to its members and sponsors sincere best |
---|
35 | 35 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
