44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 125th anniversary of Bethel
66 Baptist Church in Whitewright, and members are celebrating this
77 significant milestone on April 26; and
88 WHEREAS, Officially organized in 1884, Bethel Baptist Church
99 was first led by Brother Bob Thomas, who shepherded the original 37
1010 members; in 1897, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Autrey deeded to the
1111 congregation's leadership the land on which the church still stands
1212 today, and the first building was dedicated on August 15 of that
1313 year; and
1414 WHEREAS, A new facility was constructed in 1937, the
1515 baptistery was completed in 1949, and an educational building was
1616 added in 2002; after a tornado destroyed the sanctuary in 2006, a
1717 new one was erected the following year, and the congregation will
1818 celebrate its dedication in conjunction with this milestone
1919 anniversary; and
2020 WHEREAS, For 125 years, Bethel Baptist Church has served as a
2121 source of strength and guidance to those who have worshiped there,
2222 and the church stands as a tribute to the faith and dedication of
2323 its members, both past and present, who have devoted their time,
2424 prayers, and resources to ensure its continued existence; now,
2525 therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2727 Legislature hereby honor Bethel Baptist Church on its 125th
2828 anniversary and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for
2929 the future; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3232 House of Representatives.
