| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 125th anniversary of Bethel |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Baptist Church in Whitewright, and members are celebrating this |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | significant milestone on April 26; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Officially organized in 1884, Bethel Baptist Church |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was first led by Brother Bob Thomas, who shepherded the original 37 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | members; in 1897, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Autrey deeded to the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | congregation's leadership the land on which the church still stands |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | today, and the first building was dedicated on August 15 of that |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | year; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A new facility was constructed in 1937, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | baptistery was completed in 1949, and an educational building was |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | added in 2002; after a tornado destroyed the sanctuary in 2006, a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | new one was erected the following year, and the congregation will |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | celebrate its dedication in conjunction with this milestone |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | anniversary; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, For 125 years, Bethel Baptist Church has served as a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | source of strength and guidance to those who have worshiped there, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and the church stands as a tribute to the faith and dedication of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | its members, both past and present, who have devoted their time, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | prayers, and resources to ensure its continued existence; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor Bethel Baptist Church on its 125th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | anniversary and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
