 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Three gifted students from Smithson Valley High
 School in Spring Branch took first place in their categories at the
 annual state meeting of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of
 America, which was held in Corpus Christi from April 16 to 18, 2009;
 and
 WHEREAS, The FCCLA is a national nonprofit organization for
 young people in grades 7 through 12 who are studying family and
 consumer sciences; at the group's yearly state conference, students
 compete in 21 different event categories; and
 WHEREAS, The three young women from the Comal Independent
 School District had already placed among the top six contestants in
 their categories at the regional competition in February 2009, and
 in Corpus Christi they were competing against students from across
 the Lone Star State; and
 WHEREAS, Elise Massey took top honors in the job interview
 event, in which she presented a portfolio and participated in an
 interview, in addition to receiving the FCCLA Region Scholarship; a
 graduating senior, Ms. Massey plans to study fashion merchandising
 and marketing at the University of North Texas; and
 WHEREAS, Also winning first place was Michelle Reininger, who
 impressed the judges in the interior design category with her
 ability to research and design interiors; she is also a graduating
 senior, and she intends to pursue her interest in interior design at
 Texas State University; and
 WHEREAS, Smithson Valley junior Jordan Wimberley took first
 place in the teach and train event, which recognizes contestants
 for their research and hands-on experience in education and
 training; Ms. Wimberley aspires to become a special education
 teacher; and
 WHEREAS, The success of these three outstanding young Texans
 at the state FCCLA competition qualifies them to participate in the
 national event in Nashville in July, and they may indeed take pride
 in the recognition they have already received for their talent,
 hard work, and dedication; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Elise Massey, Michelle Reininger,
 and Jordan Wimberley on their victories at the state Family, Career
 and Community Leaders of America conference and extend to the
 students sincere best wishes for continued success and a bright
 future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for these FCCLA winners as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
