| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The National Foundation for Women Legislators |

| 6 | 6 | | rendered invaluable aid to countless individuals in the aftermath |

| 7 | 7 | | of Hurricane Ike; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, After this catastrophic event left more than two |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | million people without power, the National Foundation for Women |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Legislators responded quickly in order to ensure that the residents |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of Northwest Houston were able to have their vital need for food and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | water met; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Led by president and CEO Robin Read, the group |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | coordinated its efforts with Office Depot and Nourish America and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | helped establish distribution centers, where they provided |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | nutritional food and beverages and hygiene items to thousands of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | hurricane survivors and emergency workers; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noble actions, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as evidenced by the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | generous support offered by the National Foundation for Women |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Legislators; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature hereby honor the National Foundation for Women |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislators for the important role it played in the Hurricane Ike |

| 25 | 25 | | relief and recovery effort and extend to all those associated with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the organization sincere gratitude for their hard work and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | dedication; and, be it further |
