H.R. No. 1897 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Office Depot rendered invaluable aid to countless individuals in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike; and WHEREAS, After this catastrophic event left more than two million people without power, Office Depot responded quickly in order to ensure that the residents of Northwest Houston were able to have their vital needs met; the corporation donated food, beverages, and hygiene items and coordinated its efforts with Nourish America and the National Foundation for Women Legislators to establish distribution centers, where it provided these essentials to thousands of emergency workers and hurricane survivors, including many Office Depot associates; and WHEREAS, Through its foundation, Office Depot also contributed to local business owners, and it offered such complimentary services as cell phone charging and fax machine, photocopying, and Internet access at its area stores; among those who led these initiatives were foundation president Mary Wong, foundation manager Phoenix Adams, foundation specialist Jessica Strazulla, and foundation assistant Sabrina Conte, as well as store managers Steve Zreineh, Sandra Caton, Lee Wirz, Vicki Harris, Don Squyres, Jennifer Bonano, Terrance Zimmer, Hugh Sutton, Jennifer Rodefeld, Jennifer Bridgeford, Jason Sharp, Guye Allen, Maria Gilder, Erin Wallace, Michael Lawson, Robert Champion, Ray Rosales, Kevin Vaughn, Paul Dickerson, Jim Stumph, Todd Stanley, Diana Mancini, Mark Means, Jack Davis, and John Shreeve; and WHEREAS, Times of great crisis often inspire noble actions, and Hurricane Ike proved to be no exception, as evidenced by the generous support offered by Office Depot; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor Office Depot for the important role it played in the Hurricane Ike relief and recovery effort and extend to all those company representatives who were involved in the process sincere gratitude for their hard work and dedication; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Office Depot as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
