No. 1902 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Wilma Hudson has played a vital role in her community through her service with the YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region; and WHEREAS, The El Paso YWCA provides services to empower and enrich the lives of women and girls in the El Paso region, and it is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009; and WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Wilma Hudson earned a bachelor's degree in zoology from Fisk University in Tennessee in 1948; after teaching in Georgia for a time, she married and returned to El Paso to continue her career; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hudson received further training from Hotel Dieu Hospital, and for 30 years she worked as a special hematology technologist at Beaumont Army Medical Center; and WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, this accomplished woman gave back to her community through her many years of service on the board of directors of the YWCA; as a member of the organization's child care committee, she helped to ensure that children were well looked after while also assisting their mothers; and WHEREAS, In 1979, Mrs. Hudson worked to establish the REACH Awards program, an annual luncheon that honors women and young women for significant contributions and achievement in the arts, business, community service, education, health care, and academic studies; and WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers play an important role in communities across the Lone Star State, and for many years, Wilma Hudson has served as an inspiring leader and role model in El Paso through her work with the YWCA; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commend Wilma Hudson for her long record of service with the El Paso YWCA and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Hudson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
