55 WHEREAS, Wilma Hudson has played a vital role in her
66 community through her service with the YWCA El Paso Del Norte
77 Region; and
88 WHEREAS, The El Paso YWCA provides services to empower and
99 enrich the lives of women and girls in the El Paso region, and it is
1010 celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009; and
1111 WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Wilma Hudson earned a bachelor's
1212 degree in zoology from Fisk University in Tennessee in 1948; after
1313 teaching in Georgia for a time, she married and returned to El Paso
1414 to continue her career; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hudson received further training from Hotel
1616 Dieu Hospital, and for 30 years she worked as a special hematology
1717 technologist at Beaumont Army Medical Center; and
1818 WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, this
1919 accomplished woman gave back to her community through her many
2020 years of service on the board of directors of the YWCA; as a member
2121 of the organization's child care committee, she helped to ensure
2222 that children were well looked after while also assisting their
2323 mothers; and
2424 WHEREAS, In 1979, Mrs. Hudson worked to establish the REACH
2525 Awards program, an annual luncheon that honors women and young
2626 women for significant contributions and achievement in the arts,
2727 business, community service, education, health care, and academic
2828 studies; and
2929 WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers play an important role in
3030 communities across the Lone Star State, and for many years, Wilma
3131 Hudson has served as an inspiring leader and role model in El Paso
3232 through her work with the YWCA; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
3434 Legislature hereby commend Wilma Hudson for her long record of
3535 service with the El Paso YWCA and extend to her sincere best wishes
3636 for continued happiness; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Mrs. Hudson as an expression of high regard by the
3939 Texas House of Representatives.
