5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Wilma Hudson has played a vital role in her |

6 | 6 | | community through her service with the YWCA El Paso Del Norte |

7 | 7 | | Region; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The El Paso YWCA provides services to empower and |
---|
9 | 9 | | enrich the lives of women and girls in the El Paso region, and it is |
---|
10 | 10 | | celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, An El Paso native, Wilma Hudson earned a bachelor's |
---|
12 | 12 | | degree in zoology from Fisk University in Tennessee in 1948; after |
---|
13 | 13 | | teaching in Georgia for a time, she married and returned to El Paso |
---|
14 | 14 | | to continue her career; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hudson received further training from Hotel |
---|
16 | 16 | | Dieu Hospital, and for 30 years she worked as a special hematology |
---|
17 | 17 | | technologist at Beaumont Army Medical Center; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Despite her busy professional life, this |
---|
19 | 19 | | accomplished woman gave back to her community through her many |
---|
20 | 20 | | years of service on the board of directors of the YWCA; as a member |
---|
21 | 21 | | of the organization's child care committee, she helped to ensure |
---|
22 | 22 | | that children were well looked after while also assisting their |
---|
23 | 23 | | mothers; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, Mrs. Hudson worked to establish the REACH |
---|
25 | 25 | | Awards program, an annual luncheon that honors women and young |
---|
26 | 26 | | women for significant contributions and achievement in the arts, |
---|
27 | 27 | | business, community service, education, health care, and academic |
---|
28 | 28 | | studies; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated volunteers play an important role in |
---|
30 | 30 | | communities across the Lone Star State, and for many years, Wilma |
---|
31 | 31 | | Hudson has served as an inspiring leader and role model in El Paso |
---|
32 | 32 | | through her work with the YWCA; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend Wilma Hudson for her long record of |
---|
35 | 35 | | service with the El Paso YWCA and extend to her sincere best wishes |
---|
36 | 36 | | for continued happiness; and, be it further |
