5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bobby Trimble of Midland has devoted much of his |
---|
6 | 6 | | life to developing, implementing, and expanding the organization |
---|
7 | 7 | | Christmas in Action; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A volunteer program, Christmas in Action aims to |
---|
9 | 9 | | improve the lives of less fortunate members of the community; Mr. |
---|
10 | 10 | | Trimble conceived of the program during a Sunday school lesson on |
---|
11 | 11 | | the social responsibilities of people of faith; taking this |
---|
12 | 12 | | teaching to heart, he organized a group of like-minded citizens and |
---|
13 | 13 | | began Christmas In April (CIA); under his able leadership, people |
---|
14 | 14 | | began donating their time, resources, and labor to make small |
---|
15 | 15 | | repairs to the homes of the elderly and disabled in Midland; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Enthusiasm and interest in the program grew, and in |
---|
17 | 17 | | May of 1976, Mr. Trimble helped to establish a formal organization |
---|
18 | 18 | | by creating a CIA board of directors and becoming its first |
---|
19 | 19 | | president; as word of CIA's good work spread, he was called upon, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and graciously assented, to help other communities across the state |
---|
21 | 21 | | and nation start similar programs; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In addition to its efforts to maintain and improve |
---|
23 | 23 | | individual residences, CIA accepted responsibility for building a |
---|
24 | 24 | | HUD apartment complex to house low-income elderly; Langtry Village |
---|
25 | 25 | | was completed in May 1986, and Mr. Trimble continues to serve as its |
---|
26 | 26 | | president; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, His concept of assisting a vulnerable segment of |
---|
28 | 28 | | local society has grown tremendously since its humble beginnings; |
---|
29 | 29 | | rechristened Christmas in Action in 2001, the program has repaired |
---|
30 | 30 | | more than 8,000 homes, and more than 47,000 volunteers have given |
---|
31 | 31 | | their time and energy to help the elderly and disabled in the |
---|
32 | 32 | | community; for his efforts, Mr. Trimble received the Governor's |
---|
33 | 33 | | Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service in 1981, and the |
---|
34 | 34 | | President's Volunteer Action Award in April 1982; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, The mission of Christmas in Action has remained |
---|
36 | 36 | | unchanged since first articulated by Mr. Trimble: those who are |
---|
37 | 37 | | able have a duty to help those who are unable to help themselves; |
---|
38 | 38 | | despite nearing 80 years of age, Bobby Trimble continues to set an |
---|
39 | 39 | | example of service and commitment, devoting his hard labor and |
---|
40 | 40 | | considerable organizational talents so that others may live in |
---|
41 | 41 | | safety, warmth, and independence; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby commend Bobby Trimble on his efforts with |
---|
44 | 44 | | Christmas in Action and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
---|
45 | 45 | | continued success with his important work; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

47 | 47 | | prepared for Mr. Trimble as an expression of high regard by the |
