| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Angela Gardner of Grapevine has been named |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | president-elect of the American College of Emergency Physicians; |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, After earning her medical degree at the Texas Tech |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Dr. Gardner completed a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | transitional internship and an emergency medicine residency at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas Tech Regional Academic Health Center in El Paso; she is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | currently serving as an assistant professor in the department of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | addition to teaching and treating patients, Dr. Gardner is active |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in the field of emergency medicine and is an advocate of preserving |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | patients' access to quality emergency care; she also played a key |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | role in the passage of medical liability reform in Texas, and she |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hopes to bring about similar changes at the national level; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1968, ACEP is the oldest and largest |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | national medical specialty organization representing physicians |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | who practice emergency medicine; with more than 22,000 members, the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | organization sponsors a continuing education program, monitors |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | trends in the health care environment, and analyzes issues |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | affecting emergency physicians and their patients; ACEP also works |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to affect public policy through its Washington, D.C., office, and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | it publishes newsletters and a monthly journal, Annals of Emergency |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Medicine; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Having held various leadership positions in both the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Texas chapter and the national organization, Dr. Gardner brings her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | extensive experience to ACEP as its president-elect; she has served |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | on its board of directors for six years and as its vice president; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | she was also president of Texas ACEP in 2003 and the chair of the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | National Report Card Task Force in 2006; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has long demonstrated a profound |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | commitment to her profession, and she may indeed reflect with great |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | pride on her notable achievements as she takes on this new role; |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Angela Gardner on her election |
