55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Dr. Angela Gardner of Grapevine has been named
77 president-elect of the American College of Emergency Physicians;
88 and
99 WHEREAS, After earning her medical degree at the Texas Tech
1010 Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Dr. Gardner completed a
1111 transitional internship and an emergency medicine residency at
1212 Texas Tech Regional Academic Health Center in El Paso; she is
1313 currently serving as an assistant professor in the department of
1414 surgery at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; in
1515 addition to teaching and treating patients, Dr. Gardner is active
1616 in the field of emergency medicine and is an advocate of preserving
1717 patients' access to quality emergency care; she also played a key
1818 role in the passage of medical liability reform in Texas, and she
1919 hopes to bring about similar changes at the national level; and
2020 WHEREAS, Founded in 1968, ACEP is the oldest and largest
2121 national medical specialty organization representing physicians
2222 who practice emergency medicine; with more than 22,000 members, the
2323 organization sponsors a continuing education program, monitors
2424 trends in the health care environment, and analyzes issues
2525 affecting emergency physicians and their patients; ACEP also works
2626 to affect public policy through its Washington, D.C., office, and
2727 it publishes newsletters and a monthly journal, Annals of Emergency
2828 Medicine; and
2929 WHEREAS, Having held various leadership positions in both the
3030 Texas chapter and the national organization, Dr. Gardner brings her
3131 extensive experience to ACEP as its president-elect; she has served
3232 on its board of directors for six years and as its vice president;
3333 she was also president of Texas ACEP in 2003 and the chair of the
3434 National Report Card Task Force in 2006; and
3535 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has long demonstrated a profound
3636 commitment to her profession, and she may indeed reflect with great
3737 pride on her notable achievements as she takes on this new role;
3838 now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Angela Gardner on her election
4141 as president of the American College of Emergency Physicians and
4242 extend to her sincere best wishes for a successful tenure; and, be
4343 it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for Dr. Gardner as an expression of high regard by the
4646 Texas House of Representatives.
