No. 1938 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 75th anniversary of the Grapevine Lions Club, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize this fine organization for its continued efforts in behalf of the community; and WHEREAS, With sponsorship from the Decatur Lions Club, the Grapevine Lions Club was chartered on December 3, 1934, as part of Lions Clubs International, and it is the oldest service organization in Grapevine; in fact, the group contributed to the early development of the town by initiating the present house numbering system, providing street signs, and helping to establish Grapevine Springs Park; and WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the Grapevine Lions Club has worked to foster understanding and compassion, to encourage civic participation and community, to promote good government and citizenship, and to serve as a forum for discussing important public issues; and WHEREAS, The group has further distinguished itself through its support for local organizations, including the Grapevine Heritage Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America, Metroport Meals on Wheels, and the Grapevine Library; the Lions Club also conducts various initiatives aimed at schoolchildren, like the D.A.R.E. program, and it assists low-income residents and senior citizens through a number of other projects; moreover, it continues to participate in numerous Lions charities, including the Eye Exam and Eye Glass Program, the Texas Lions League for Crippled Children, the Texas Lions Foundation, and the Lions Club International Foundation; and WHEREAS, The Grapevine Lions Club has remained committed to building a strong community and enriching the lives of area residents, and its members may take justifiable pride in their shared legacy of good works; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Grapevine Lions Club and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Grapevine Lions Club as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
