| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 75th anniversary of the |

| 6 | 6 | | Grapevine Lions Club, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize this |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | fine organization for its continued efforts in behalf of the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, With sponsorship from the Decatur Lions Club, the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Grapevine Lions Club was chartered on December 3, 1934, as part of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Lions Clubs International, and it is the oldest service |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | organization in Grapevine; in fact, the group contributed to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | early development of the town by initiating the present house |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | numbering system, providing street signs, and helping to establish |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Grapevine Springs Park; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the Grapevine Lions |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Club has worked to foster understanding and compassion, to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | encourage civic participation and community, to promote good |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | government and citizenship, and to serve as a forum for discussing |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | important public issues; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The group has further distinguished itself through |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | its support for local organizations, including the Grapevine |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Heritage Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America, Metroport Meals on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Wheels, and the Grapevine Library; the Lions Club also conducts |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | various initiatives aimed at schoolchildren, like the D.A.R.E. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | program, and it assists low-income residents and senior citizens |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | through a number of other projects; moreover, it continues to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | participate in numerous Lions charities, including the Eye Exam and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Eye Glass Program, the Texas Lions League for Crippled Children, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the Texas Lions Foundation, and the Lions Club International |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Foundation; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The Grapevine Lions Club has remained committed to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | building a strong community and enriching the lives of area |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | residents, and its members may take justifiable pride in their |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | shared legacy of good works; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the |

| 38 | 38 | | Grapevine Lions Club and extend to all those associated with the |

| 39 | 39 | | organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
