5	5	WHEREAS, The life of Margaret Caroline Hussmann of El Paso
6	6	was all too brief, but this brave and irrepressible young lady
7	7	filled her days and countless hearts with joy, love, and laughter
8	8	before her passing on January 24, 2009, at the age of 15; and
9	9	WHEREAS, Ms. Hussmann was born in El Paso on May 13, 1993, to
10	10	Amy and Harry Hussmann; she attended Polk Elementary School and
11	11	Hornedo Middle School before going on to Franklin High School,
12	12	where she excelled in volleyball and basketball; in addition, the
13	13	athletic youngster played with the El Paso Wildfire Volleyball Club
14	14	and was a member of the regional High Performance Junior Olympic
15	15	Pipeline team; her warm, outgoing personality and sense of humor
16	16	brought her many friends, who joined her family in fond indulgence
17	17	of the self-identified "rock star" in their midst; and
18	18	WHEREAS, When she received a terminal diagnosis, Ms. Hussmann
19	19	revealed her true star quality; she made it her mission to have all
20	20	the fun she possibly could in the time that remained to her, and she
21	21	drew family and friends along in her adventures; moreover, she
22	22	allowed the El Paso Times to chronicle her journey, touching many
23	23	lives with her courage and determination to enjoy every moment; her
24	24	mother helped her create a list of things she most wanted to
25	25	experience, and her friends and family members joined her in
26	26	activities that ranged from getting henna tattoos and baking
27	27	cookies to an exciting trip to New York and a helicopter ride; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Her unflagging optimism was a blessing to those she
29	29	loved, and Margaret Hussmann also reached out to share it with
30	30	others; she wrote a book for younger children facing serious
31	31	illness and titled it Hope Is Here; her mottos were "twice as
32	32	strong" and "never a dull moment," and as she embodied those
33	33	sentiments, she inspired people across the country, allowing them
34	34	to be part of her celebration of life; in tribute, residents of El
35	35	Paso held a parade for her and Hospice El Paso is naming its
36	36	education auditorium "Margaret's Room"; and
37	37	WHEREAS, Margaret Hussmann is deeply missed by those who held
38	38	her dear, and she is mourned by the thousands in El Paso and across
39	39	the country who came to admire her; however, though tears may still
40	40	fall, the many funny stories, sweet memories, and profound lessons
41	41	she left behind will forever serve as a reminder to rejoice in each
42	42	day; now, therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
44	44	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Margaret Hussmann and
45	45	extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
46	46	parents, Amy and Harry Hussmann; to her twin brother, Calder
47	47	Hussmann, and her older brother, Robert Hussmann; to her
48	48	grandparents, Tom Hussmann and Sonja Arnold Boone; to her aunts,
49	49	Alice White and her husband, Mike, and Anne Mitchell and her
50	50	husband, Mark; and to her other relatives and host of friends; and,
51	51	be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
54	54	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margaret
55	55	Caroline Hussmann.
