| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Karen Flake was honored for her achievements at the |

| 6 | 6 | | Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on April 18, 2009; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have |

| 8 | 8 | | distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic |

| 9 | 9 | | involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient of this honor, Ms. Flake |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | is the daughter of Andrew and Barbara Flake; she is a senior at |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Barbara Jordan High School for Careers and a member of Greater Pure |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Light Baptist Church; following graduation, she plans to study |

| 18 | 18 | | business management at Houston Baptist University; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
