44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Houston police officer Rick Salter, a man of
66 extraordinary courage and commitment, was gravely wounded in the
77 line of duty on March 5, 2009; and
88 WHEREAS, Officer Salter was shot while leading the effort to
99 serve a felony search warrant, and although he has a long road of
1010 recovery ahead of him, his courage and inner resolve are helping to
1111 sustain him during this difficult time; his assailant was an
1212 illegal immigrant with previous drug arrests; and
1313 WHEREAS, A 28-year veteran of law enforcement, Officer Salter
1414 has been on the front lines for much of his career, facing danger on
1515 a regular basis as a point man on an elite squad specializing in
1616 narcotics investigations; not content to retire or to take a desk
1717 job, he chose instead to share his expertise with his peers as a
1818 mentor to younger officers; and
1919 WHEREAS, Officer Salter is one of many dedicated police
2020 officers who place themselves in harm's way daily to make the world
2121 safer for others, and the hard work and skill that he has brought to
2222 his profession have earned him the respect and admiration of all who
2323 know him; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2525 Legislature hereby commend Officer Rick Salter for his brave
2626 service and extend to him sincere best wishes for a swift and full
2727 recovery; and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2929 prepared for Officer Salter as an expression of high regard by the
3030 Texas House of Representatives.
