| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Houston police officer Rick Salter, a man of |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | extraordinary courage and commitment, was gravely wounded in the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | line of duty on March 5, 2009; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Officer Salter was shot while leading the effort to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | serve a felony search warrant, and although he has a long road of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | recovery ahead of him, his courage and inner resolve are helping to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | sustain him during this difficult time; his assailant was an |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | illegal immigrant with previous drug arrests; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A 28-year veteran of law enforcement, Officer Salter |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | has been on the front lines for much of his career, facing danger on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | a regular basis as a point man on an elite squad specializing in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | narcotics investigations; not content to retire or to take a desk |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | job, he chose instead to share his expertise with his peers as a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | mentor to younger officers; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Officer Salter is one of many dedicated police |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | officers who place themselves in harm's way daily to make the world |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | safer for others, and the hard work and skill that he has brought to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | his profession have earned him the respect and admiration of all who |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature hereby commend Officer Rick Salter for his brave |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | service and extend to him sincere best wishes for a swift and full |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | recovery; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
