| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Students, alumni, and faculty are celebrating the |

| 6 | 6 | | 40th anniversary of the establishment of The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Created by the Texas Legislature in 1969, UTSA |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | enrolled 670 graduate students in its first class in 1973, and since |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | that time it has become one of the fastest-growing public |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | universities in Texas; more than 28,000 students are currently |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | pursuing degrees at UTSA, and some 72,000 alumni contribute to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | communities around the world; additionally, it is responsible for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | an annual economic impact of $1.2 billion; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, UTSA provides its undergraduate and graduate |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | students with access to research and educational opportunities that |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | help to prepare them to take a leadership role in their fields, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | this tradition of educational excellence could not have been |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | achieved without the support of many public and private sector |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | partners; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A proud component of The University of Texas System, |

| 22 | 22 | | UTSA is building a solid foundation for its graduates by helping to |

| 23 | 23 | | prepare them for success in the global economy, and its |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contributions as part of the public higher education system in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texas merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby honor The University of Texas at San Antonio on |

| 28 | 28 | | the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its establishment and |

| 29 | 29 | | extend to all those associated with this notable institution |
