| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Community leader Christie Nowlin of Helotes |

| 6 | 6 | | received a significant honor when she was selected to serve as |

| 7 | 7 | | parade marshal for the community's annual Cornyval Parade; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Named for the Mexican word for stalk corn, elote, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | the city of Helotes pays tribute to its heritage every spring with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the Cornyval Festival; the four-day event features an arts and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | crafts fair, food booths, live music, a rodeo, a carnival midway, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and the Miss Helotes Pageant in addition to the festival parade; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A valued resident of Helotes since 1983, Mrs. Nowlin |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | has been a member of the Festival Association for 25 years; she has |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | served the organization as vice president in charge of booths, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | overseen special contests, sold tickets and beer, assisted with the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | pageant, and worked the parade route; currently a part of the fence |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | crew, she has led the group as its elected president and as a member |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of its board of directors; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Nowlin has also shared her time with the local |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Lioness Club, serving as president, vice president, and board |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | member; in addition to helping the organization raise funds for a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | host of worthwhile causes, she has benefited the Helotes Lions Club |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | as its president and as a member of its board of directors; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Christie Nowlin has given much to her community, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | it is fitting that her contributions were recognized by granting |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | her this notable place of honor in the Cornyval Parade; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Christie Nowlin on her designation |
