| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, David Joseph Spellman has been named valedictorian |

| 6 | 6 | | of the Class of 2009 at William H. Taft High School in San Antonio, |

| 7 | 7 | | and for achieving this significant honor, he indeed merits special |

| 8 | 8 | | recognition; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Earning the title of valedictorian requires not only |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | intellect and aptitude, but four years of dedication to the highest |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | academic standards; the student who garners this coveted |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | distinction must demonstrate a thorough understanding of a wide |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | range of subjects, from math and science to language arts and social |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | studies, yet the rewards of the countless hours of study and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | preparation are myriad; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the pride inherent in being |

| 17 | 17 | | recognized as the highest achieving student in his class, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | valedictorian is frequently the recipient of scholarships and |

| 19 | 19 | | grants; he also gains the opportunity to address his fellow seniors |

| 20 | 20 | | at commencement and to reflect on their shared history as well as |

| 21 | 21 | | their hopes and ambitions for the future; and |

| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his academic career, David Spellman has |

| 23 | 23 | | earned the respect and admiration of his teachers and classmates at |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Taft High School, and his exceptional scholastic ability, hard |

| 25 | 25 | | work, and commitment to excellence have surely opened the way to |

| 26 | 26 | | limitless opportunities for this remarkable young Texan; now, |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
