| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Alexis Renae Garcia has been crowned Miss Edinburg |

| 6 | 6 | | 2009, and this outstanding achievement provides a fitting |

| 7 | 7 | | opportunity to recognize this accomplished young woman; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In addition to winning the coveted first-place |

| 9 | 9 | | prize, Alexis Garcia was also awarded the title of Miss Photogenic |

| 10 | 10 | | at the pageant, which was held at The University of Texas--Pan |

| 11 | 11 | | American campus on October 12, 2008; and |

| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A junior at Edinburg High School, Ms. Garcia is a |

| 13 | 13 | | member of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica and an officer of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and she plays an active role with |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the marching band, mock trial club, and debate club; she honed her |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leadership skills at the National Hispanic Institute and its |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session and has been invited to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | join the Hidalgo County Cotillion Club; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Through her hard work and steadfast commitment to a |

| 20 | 20 | | worthy goal, Alexis Garcia has earned the opportunity to represent |

| 21 | 21 | | the Edinburg community, and it is a pleasure to recognize this |

| 22 | 22 | | exemplary young Texan; now, therefore, be it |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
