| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Paulette Rainey is retiring as band director at |

| 6 | 6 | | Clint Small, Jr. Middle School in Austin in 2009, drawing to a close |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a notable career in music education that has spanned four decades; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Paris, Texas, Ms. Rainey studied music |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | there with Floyd and Irene Weger; she later studied flute with John |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Hicks at The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned her |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | bachelor's degree in music education and her master's degree in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | conducting and pursued doctoral studies in music theory; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rainey has distinguished herself as a music |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | teacher at a number of schools in the Austin Independent School |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | District, including Baker Junior High School, O. Henry Middle |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | School, Lanier High School, and Lamar Middle School; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In 2003, Ms. Rainey became the assistant band |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | director at Clint Small, Jr. Middle School, and she was promoted to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | head band director in 2006; she has taught beginning flute, oboe, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | trombone, and euphonium, and she has conducted the Wind Ensemble |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and the Jazz Band and assisted with the Symphonic Winds; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the Clint Small band has |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | performed exceptionally well at University Interscholastic League |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | competitions, and she conducted the Wind Ensemble in a special |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | performance for music educators at the Midwest Band and Orchestra |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Clinic in Chicago in December 2008; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rainey's dedication, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | commitment to music education have greatly benefited her students |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | over the years, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | well-spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Paulette Rainey on her retirement |

| 35 | 35 | | from Clint Small, Jr. Middle School and extend to her sincere best |

| 36 | 36 | | wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |
