5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Howard |
---|
6 | 6 | | Lee Mangold of San Antonio, who died on April 8, 2009, at the age of |
---|
7 | 7 | | 76; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Howard Mangold was born in Keyser, West Virginia, on |
---|
9 | 9 | | January 31, 1933, to Howard Taft Mangold and Oma Gladys Mangold; |
---|
10 | 10 | | after graduating from Keyser High School in 1950, he attended |
---|
11 | 11 | | Potomac State College; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Interested in aviation from an early age, he earned |
---|
13 | 13 | | his pilot's license at the age of 19 and purchased an Aeronca |
---|
14 | 14 | | Champion airplane; a few years later, he enlisted in the U.S. Air |
---|
15 | 15 | | Force and was accepted into the aviation cadet program in 1955; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He married the former Vivian Knopp in 1957, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | after his discharge from the air force the couple lived in West |
---|
18 | 18 | | Virginia, where he worked first for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad |
---|
19 | 19 | | and then at Allegheny Ballistics Laboratory; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1962, Mr. Mangold and his wife moved to San |
---|
21 | 21 | | Antonio, where he attended San Antonio College, majoring in public |
---|
22 | 22 | | speaking, economics, and business administration; during his time |
---|
23 | 23 | | at the college, he won praise for his innovative ideas for reducing |
---|
24 | 24 | | the amount of plastic litter along roadways; he later went to work |
---|
25 | 25 | | in the Mech-Tech department at Kelly Air Force Base, and he earned |
---|
26 | 26 | | awards on two occasions for his money-saving ideas; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, While continuing his employment at Kelly AFB, Mr. |
---|
28 | 28 | | Mangold opened the first of several motorcycle dealerships in the |
---|
29 | 29 | | San Antonio area, and then following his civil service retirement |
---|
30 | 30 | | in 1999, he served as an assistant for councilman and then mayor Ed |
---|
31 | 31 | | Garza and councilman Julian Castro; he also worked for Mannheim |
---|
32 | 32 | | Auto Auctions and held a patent for an invention called the Bridge |
---|
33 | 33 | | Buddy; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, An energetic and innovative spirit, Howard Mangold |
---|
35 | 35 | | lived a full and productive life, and memories of happy times spent |
---|
36 | 36 | | in his company will be held forever in the hearts of those who knew |
---|
37 | 37 | | and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Howard Lee Mangold and |
---|
40 | 40 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of |
---|
41 | 41 | | 52 years, Vivian Mangold; to his daughter, Anita Louise Mangold |
---|
42 | 42 | | Eisthen; to his son, Howard Keith Mangold; and to his other |
---|
43 | 43 | | relatives and friends; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

45 | 45 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

46 | 46 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Howard Lee |
