5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of William |

6 | 6 | | Kelly Young of Fort Worth, who passed away on April 13, 2009, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The fourth son of Marshall and Margaret Kelly Young, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Kelly Young was born on October 14, 1933, in Fort Worth; he went on |
---|
10 | 10 | | to graduate from Arlington Heights High School in 1951, and he later |
---|
11 | 11 | | completed a two-year tour of duty as a radar technician with the |
---|
12 | 12 | | United States Army; in 1958, he earned a bachelor's degree in |
---|
13 | 13 | | geology from Washington and Lee University in Virginia; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The following year, Mr. Young joined his father at |
---|
15 | 15 | | Marshall R. Young Oil Company, where he was responsible for |
---|
16 | 16 | | securing leases and funding for prospects, and he became a highly |
---|
17 | 17 | | regarded leader within the local oil and gas industry; after their |
---|
18 | 18 | | father's passing in 1976, Mr. Young and his brothers continued to |
---|
19 | 19 | | operate their successful family business; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Kelly Young generously supported numerous area |
---|
21 | 21 | | organizations, and he was on the boards of Continental National |
---|
22 | 22 | | Bank, the Lena Pope Home, and the Recovery Resource Council; in |
---|
23 | 23 | | addition, he served as president of the Glass House, and he was a |
---|
24 | 24 | | member of Steeplechase, the Exchange Club of Fort Worth, the Fort |
---|
25 | 25 | | Worth Wildcatters, River Crest Country Club, and the Fort Worth |
---|
26 | 26 | | Club; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Outside of his professional and civic involvement, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Mr. Young took great pleasure in raising horses on his ranch in |
---|
29 | 29 | | Weatherford, and in playing golf and traveling; he also enjoyed |
---|
30 | 30 | | entertaining his friends and family by singing and playing the |
---|
31 | 31 | | piano, and he was an avid collector of Americana and Texas folk art; |
---|
32 | 32 | | and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Kelly Young demonstrated both confidence and |
---|
34 | 34 | | humility in his everyday life, and those fortunate enough to have |
---|
35 | 35 | | shared in his love and friendship will forever treasure their |
---|
36 | 36 | | memories of this caring and easygoing Texan; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Kelly Young |

39 | 39 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
