55 WHEREAS, Lara Jackson of El Paso has been recognized for her
66 success in collegiate athletics by being named the recipient of the
77 2009 Ruby Award from the University of Arizona; and
88 WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is given annually to the top
99 female senior student-athlete at the university, and Ms. Jackson
1010 earned the commendation for her success on the Wildcats swim team;

1212 WHEREAS, A graduate of Chapin High School in El Paso, Ms.
1313 Jackson began swimming for the University of Arizona in 2005;
1414 several noteworthy achievements have marked the athletic career of
1515 this dedicated competitor; she claimed the NCAA title in the
1616 50-meter freestyle in 2008 and 2009, helped her team become the 2008
1717 NCAA champs, and has won multiple all-American honors; and
1818 WHEREAS, In winning the Ruby Award, Lara Jackson has received
1919 a fitting tribute to her exceptional career in college swimming,
2020 and her accomplishments have furthered the Lone Star State's
2121 considerable reputation for producing outstanding athletes; now,
2222 therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
2424 Legislature hereby congratulate Lara Jackson on her receipt of the
2525 2009 Ruby Award from the University of Arizona and extend to her
2626 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2727 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2828 prepared for Ms. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the
2929 Texas House of Representatives.
