Wesley Hoskins of Corpus Christi has been elected as the new chair of the board of directors of the Texas Bankers Association; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1885, the Texas Bankers Association works to create a healthy environment for the state's banking institutions; it offers services to bank employees as well as programs that help banks fight crime, teach young people financial responsibility, and assist senior citizens; and WHEREAS, Wes Hoskins first joined the board of the TBA in 2000 and was elected treasurer in 2007; he has also served as the chair of the organization's Community Bankers Council and as a member of the American Bankers Association Community Bankers Council; and WHEREAS, Born in Bastrop, Mr. Hoskins earned a degree in communications from Texas State University; he began his banking career in 1992 as a director of First Community Bank, and he became president and CEO of the bank five years later; in 1999, he also became chair of Coastal Bend Bancshares; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hoskins has long been a leader in his community, as a member of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce board and as a member and chair of the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District board; he also served as a trustee and secretary/treasurer of the Gregory Portland Independent School District; and WHEREAS, This caring gentleman has been involved as well with such worthwhile organizations as the Boy Scouts, the South Texas Children's Heart Institute, the American Cancer Society, the Driscoll Foundation, the CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation, and others; moreover, he has been an active member of his church, the First United Methodist Church of Portland, which he has served as treasurer, finance committee chair, and staff parish committee chair; and WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure in banking, Wes Hoskins has upheld the highest standards of professionalism and community engagement, and he will no doubt fulfill his new duties as chair of the Texas Bankers Association with equal commitment and energy; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature congratulate W. Wesley Hoskins on his election as chair of the board of the Texas Bankers Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hoskins as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
