| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, W. Wesley Hoskins of Corpus Christi has been elected |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | as the new chair of the board of directors of the Texas Bankers |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1885, the Texas Bankers Association works |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to create a healthy environment for the state's banking |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | institutions; it offers services to bank employees as well as |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | programs that help banks fight crime, teach young people financial |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | responsibility, and assist senior citizens; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Wes Hoskins first joined the board of the TBA in 2000 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and was elected treasurer in 2007; he has also served as the chair |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of the organization's Community Bankers Council and as a member of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the American Bankers Association Community Bankers Council; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Born in Bastrop, Mr. Hoskins earned a degree in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | communications from Texas State University; he began his banking |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | career in 1992 as a director of First Community Bank, and he became |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | president and CEO of the bank five years later; in 1999, he also |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | became chair of Coastal Bend Bancshares; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hoskins has long been a leader in his community, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | as a member of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce board and as a |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | member and chair of the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | board; he also served as a trustee and secretary/treasurer of the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Gregory Portland Independent School District; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, This caring gentleman has been involved as well with |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | such worthwhile organizations as the Boy Scouts, the South Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Children's Heart Institute, the American Cancer Society, the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Driscoll Foundation, the CHRISTUS Spohn Foundation, and others; |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | moreover, he has been an active member of his church, the First |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | United Methodist Church of Portland, which he has served as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | treasurer, finance committee chair, and staff parish committee |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | chair; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure in banking, Wes Hoskins has |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | upheld the highest standards of professionalism and community |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | engagement, and he will no doubt fulfill his new duties as chair of |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | the Texas Bankers Association with equal commitment and energy; |

| 40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 41 | 41 | | Legislature congratulate W. Wesley Hoskins on his election as chair |
