H.R. No. 2098 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the tragic loss of U.S. Army Sergeant Wesley R. Durbin of Hurst, who died serving his nation in Iraq on September 14, 2008, at the age of 26; and WHEREAS, Born in Dallas, Wes Durbin graduated from Lutheran High School in 2001 and was offered a scholarship to attend Concordia University in Nebraska; instead, this patriotic young man joined the Marines with his best friend and served in Iraq, reaching the rank of lance corporal; and WHEREAS, After completing his service in the Marines, Mr. Durbin contemplated continuing his education, but decided that he had more to offer his nation and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2006; he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Stewart, Georgia; and WHEREAS, Known to his fellow soldiers in Iraq as "Jarhead," for his previous service as a Marine, Sergeant Durbin was admired for his sense of humor, his concern for his comrades, and his commitment to serving his country; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this country, Wesley Durbin embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Wesley R. Durbin and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Brandi Durbin; to his parents, Randy and Carole Durbin; to his brother, Kenneth Durbin; to his stepdaughter, Pamara Underwood; to his grandparents, Mary Jo Cole and Roy and Margaret Durbin; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wesley Durbin.
