| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the tragic loss of U.S. |

| 6 | 6 | | Army Sergeant Wesley R. Durbin of Hurst, who died serving his nation |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in Iraq on September 14, 2008, at the age of 26; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Dallas, Wes Durbin graduated from Lutheran |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | High School in 2001 and was offered a scholarship to attend |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Concordia University in Nebraska; instead, this patriotic young man |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | joined the Marines with his best friend and served in Iraq, reaching |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the rank of lance corporal; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After completing his service in the Marines, Mr. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Durbin contemplated continuing his education, but decided that he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | had more to offer his nation and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2006; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | he was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, out of Fort Stewart, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Georgia; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Known to his fellow soldiers in Iraq as "Jarhead," |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | for his previous service as a Marine, Sergeant Durbin was admired |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | for his sense of humor, his concern for his comrades, and his |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | commitment to serving his country; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | this country, Wesley Durbin embodied the highest ideals of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Wesley R. |

| 30 | 30 | | Durbin and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: |

| 31 | 31 | | to his wife, Brandi Durbin; to his parents, Randy and Carole Durbin; |

| 32 | 32 | | to his brother, Kenneth Durbin; to his stepdaughter, Pamara |
