 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Fifteen students from Ben Barber Career and
 Technology Academy of the Mansfield Independent School District won
 great distinction for themselves and their school at the 61st
 annual SkillsUSA Texas Leadership and Skills Championships in
 Corpus Christi in April 2009; and
 WHEREAS, Sponsored by SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit
 organization for trade and technical students, the state
 championship brings together more than 5,200 Texas high school
 students to compete in over 150 different career and technical
 fields; and
 WHEREAS, This year's winners from Ben Barber include Hileigh
 Armenta and Jonathan Solis, who took first place in the audio radio
 production contest by scripting and creating a radio piece
 incorporating interviews and homemade sound effects; and
 WHEREAS, The construction tech team of J. R. Buford,
 Francisco Rodriguez, Philip Creasemen, and Hugo Dominguez took
 first in the Team Works category by building a room from the ground
 up during the allotted time; this was their second consecutive
 state title; and
 WHEREAS, Also taking first place were Murphy La, for
 automotive service technical information, and Alex Romans in the
 technical computer applications category; and
 WHEREAS, Marcus Riddle earned second place in electronics
 technology, while David Fenton took third place in the power
 equipment technology category and Michael Atwood took third in
 electronics technology technical information; Ty Vaughn placed
 third in marine service technology, Joel Ash placed fourth in
 residential wiring, and David Boyd and Mike Caho placed sixth and
 seventh, respectively, in the masonry competition; and
 WHEREAS, The students of Ben Barber Career Tech Academy have
 indeed made an impressive showing at this highly competitive event,
 establishing themselves as a tremendous source of pride for their
 school, families, and community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the students of Ben Barber Career
 and Technology Academy on their victories at the SkillsUSA Texas
 championships and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued
 success and a bright future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the students of the academy as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
