| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, On May 15, 2009, Dant Nicole Johnson is graduating |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | she can indeed take pride in this noteworthy accomplishment; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Johnson began her secondary education at the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | University of Toledo in Ohio, where she excelled academically, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | winning recognition on the president's list and dean's list; she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | held an athletic scholarship as a member of the women's volleyball |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | team and served as its captain for two years; in addition, she was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | vice president of the undergraduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sorority; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, After earning her bachelor's degree, Ms. Johnson |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | worked as a research assistant and project assistant at law firms in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Los Angeles and Houston; she went on to enroll in Thurgood Marshall |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | School of Law, where she made the dean's list and served as a legal |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | writing research assistant, a mentor to first-year students, and a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | student ambassador; her affiliations include the American Bar |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Association, the Government Law Society, the Black Law Students |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Association, the Prestage Woods Women's Legal Society, and the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | International & Immigration Law Society; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This gifted and industrious scholar has held |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | internships with the Office of the City Attorney in Houston, with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the United States District Court for the Southern District of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Texas, with the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Attorney General of Texas, and with the firm of Johnson, Spalding, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Doyle, West, & Trent; moreover, she has trained other students in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | legal research as a student representative for Westlaw since 2007; |

|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Giving back to the wider community, Ms. Johnson has |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | coached girls in the Houston Attackers Volleyball Club, served as a |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | youth mentor and motivational speaker, and volunteered at her local |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | food bank; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Through her hard work and commitment to excellence, |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Dant Johnson has set a high standard of achievement while |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | inspiring others to reach for their goals; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dant Johnson on the auspicious |

| 41 | 41 | | occasion of her law school graduation and extend to her sincere best |

| 42 | 42 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
