5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The future of Texas depends on today's children and |

6 | 6 | | youth growing into thriving adults; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, The safety, strength, preparedness, prosperity, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | pride of Texas are preserved when Texas children and youth are |
---|
9 | 9 | | protected from harm, supported in their health and development, |
---|
10 | 10 | | provided with education to help them succeed, given the love and |
---|
11 | 11 | | security they need to grow, and offered the resources to solve the |
---|
12 | 12 | | problems of tomorrow; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Texans Care For Children is a nonpartisan, nonprofit |
---|
14 | 14 | | organization that works to improve outcomes for all Texas children |
---|
15 | 15 | | and brings together a broad coalition of citizens in a shared |
---|
16 | 16 | | campaign to put kids first and improve children's lives by making |
---|
17 | 17 | | their well-being a priority for the Lone Star State; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Texas Network of Youth Services is a nonprofit |
---|
19 | 19 | | membership association of youth-serving agencies and advocates, |
---|
20 | 20 | | dedicated to enhancing the professionalism and effectiveness of |
---|
21 | 21 | | community-based agencies serving youth and families in Texas; Youth |
---|
22 | 22 | | in Action is a program of the Texas Network of Youth Services that |
---|
23 | 23 | | provides young people in at-risk situations with opportunities to |
---|
24 | 24 | | learn firsthand about citizenship, leadership, and public policy; |
---|
25 | 25 | | and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Children at Risk is a nonpartisan, nonprofit |
---|
27 | 27 | | organization that works to improve the health, safety, and economic |
---|
28 | 28 | | indicators impacting the quality of life for children in the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Greater Houston area through research, education, and public |
---|
30 | 30 | | policy; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Hundreds of constituents and youth from throughout |
---|
32 | 32 | | Texas as well as representatives of the 34 faith- and |
---|
33 | 33 | | community-based organizations that are cosponsoring this event are |
---|
34 | 34 | | visiting the Capitol on February 4, 2009, to encourage state |
---|
35 | 35 | | leaders to put kids first in their decision making in order to |
---|
36 | 36 | | create a solid foundation for the future economic development and |
---|
37 | 37 | | well-being of Texas; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, The dedication of a special day to discuss critical |
---|
39 | 39 | | issues affecting young Texans and to strengthen and renew our |
---|
40 | 40 | | shared commitment to securing and ensuring the well-being of the |
---|
41 | 41 | | children of this state is indeed a worthwhile endeavor; now, |
---|
42 | 42 | | therefore, be it |

43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 4, 2009, as Voices for Change |
---|
45 | 45 | | Day and commend the organizations Texans Care For Children, Texas |
---|
46 | 46 | | Network of Youth Services, and Children at Risk for their |
---|
47 | 47 | | significant contributions to the children of Texas; and, be it |
---|
48 | 48 | | further |

49 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
