| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Arthur A. Davis III was honored for his achievements |

| 6 | 6 | | at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on April 18, |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Davis attends Pearland Junior High School, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | where he is in the eighth grade; his extracurricular activities |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | include playing the saxophone and running track, a sport he pursues |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | as a member of both his school team and the Texas Storm Track Club; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Mr. Davis has previously been recognized by the Texas Storm Track |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Club and also by the Houston Youth Program for Enrichment; he |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | attends Crossroads Community Church and is the son of Arthur and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Bernadette Davis, who take great pride in his many achievements; |

|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of his |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | community and a source of tremendous pride to his family and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | teachers, and he may indeed look with anticipation and optimism |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |

| 30 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Arthur A. Davis III on being named |

| 31 | 31 | | a 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon |
