 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Sydney L. Reed was honored for her achievements at
 the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon on April 18, 2009;
 and
 WHEREAS, This gathering recognized 23 students who have
 distinguished themselves through their academic pursuits and civic
 involvement; the awards pay tribute to the memory of Reginald Keith
 Guillory, a student, musician, and member of Mount Pleasant Baptist
 Church in Houston, whose tragic death in an automobile accident at
 the age of 18 prompted area residents to create a scholarship fund;
 and
 WHEREAS, Sydney Reed is the granddaughter of Shirley P. Reed;
 she is a sixth-grade student at Ruby Reed Academy Magnet School and
 a member of Holy Bible Way Church; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Reed is a talented singer who has participated
 in the Children's Honor Choir of the Aldine Independent School
 District and has performed in several opera productions as a member
 of the Houston Grand Opera Children's Chorus; she enjoys acting and
 dancing as well as singing and hopes to study music in college; and
 WHEREAS, This fine young Texan is an exemplary member of her
 community and a source of tremendous pride to her family and
 teachers, and she may indeed look with anticipation and optimism
 toward the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Sydney L. Reed on being named a
 2009 honoree at the Reginald Keith Guillory Scholarship Luncheon
 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all
 of her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Reed as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
